TUCSON RIFLE CLUB makes a clean sweep

Firing an authentic Winchester High Wall heavy barrel target rifle in caliber 45-70, Tucson Rifle Club Rifle Director, Ron A Calderone, shot a score of 528-6X to win the NRA Black Powder Cartridge Rifle National Creedmoor Championships held at the NRA Whittington Center near scenic Raton, New Mexico on August 3rd and 4th ! Over 100 shooters from around the country competed in this prestigious long range rifle event.

The Creedmoor is fired at paper bulls-eye targets at each of 800, 900, and 1000 yards distance over a two day event. It's origins harkens back to 1873 and the origins of the NRA in the first International long range rifle competition held in the United States. Calderone was assisted by spotter, Dave Mauer, of Dewitt, Michigan, himself a seasoned service rifle competitor. In addition to the NRA gold medal awarded the winner, Ron was presented with a new Stevens model 44 ½ Schutzen style .22 caliber target rifle made by renowned gun maker, Paul Shuttleworth of CPA firearms !

Later during the week, fellow Tucsonan and Tucson Rifle Club member, Chip Mate, excelled to win the Mid-Range position National Championships with his score of 551 11-X.

Chip set a new national record with this score and this is the 2nd time he has won the competition, having done so in 2005! Shooting an authentic Hepburn rifle in caliber 40-65, Chip successfully shot the 200, 300, and 600 yard two day match leaving his nearest competitor in the dust.

Together with Payson, Arizona resident, Pat Taylor, who won the 600 yard Prone Championships, Arizona boasted the first ever clean sweep of the Bulls-eye matches in BPCR history. Tucson Rifle Club is proud to contribute two of the three members of this feat and hopes to continue it's inning pace.

Respectfully submitted:
Ron A Calderone, TRC Rifle Director
