May Tucson 600 Yard Rifle Match

|

On Sunday, May 22, 2005 we will be hosting another 600 yard high power rifle prone match at Tucson Rifle Club, Three Points, AZ. Details are as follows:

Course of fire: Two strings of 20 shots each, unlimited sighting shots for each string.
Position: Prone, with either a sling, bipod or front rest support (your choice). Be advised that, if you are a new shooter and have difficulty holding the rifle steady, you are encouraged to use a rest (sand bag, ammo can, tripod, etc.)
Rifle: Service or Match, metallic sights or scope.
Entry fee: $5
Awards: None provided.
Starting time: Range setup and squadding at 7:00AM, begin firing at 7:30AM.

Eligibility: This is intended to be a practice and training opportunity for all competition-minded shooters, regardless of skill level. Some prior target shooting experience (Garand Match, military qualification, etc.) is preferred. Coaching is allowed.

Note regarding rifles:
1. All rifles should have a known 200 yard sight setting to facilitate getting "on paper" at 600. Rear sights or scopes must have the capability to be raised at least an additional 14 minutes to be zeroed at 600.
2. Please note that muzzle brakes and compensators are not allowed, as they create excessive side blast for neighboring shooters.
3. .223 ammunition must be 62 grain bullet weight or heavier and must be fired in a 1 in 9 or faster twist barrel. 55 grain bullets and slower twist rates are unusable at 600 yards. Any questions about this, please contact me.

SAFETY:
1. Use of open bolt (empty chamber) indicators is mandatory. Either bring your own or purchase one at the range headquarters.
2. To be considered to be "safe", an unloaded rifle must have the bolt open, chamber indicator inserted and magazine removed.

Ammo: Bring your own. None available for sale. A State Association M-14, with ammo, is available, with advance notice, if you'll pay for the ammo.

Target pullers: We may be able to hire one or two pullers. Please reply by e-mail if you want one, or are bringing one available for hire.

If you have further questions or need to reserve a rifle or a puller, please contact Greg Fallon gcfallon@aol.com as soon as possible.
