Tucson 1000 Yard Prone Match - June

|

This Sunday, June 24, 2007, is the date for the monthly 1000 yard prone match at Tucson Rifle Club.

Course of fire: Shooters will be divided into two relays. Each relay will be given a block time of 45 minutes to shoot. Shooters may fire as many shots as desired during this period. All firing is to be done slow fire. Targets will be pulled and marked after each shot by the non-firing relay.

Position: Prone, with either a sling, bipod or front rest for support.

Rifle: Service or Match; metallic sights or scope.

Awards: None provided. Scores will not be tabulated as no specific course of fire is ordained.

Entry fee: $5

Starting time: Arrive by 6:30 AM for squadding and equipment setup. Begin firing at 7:00 AM SHARP. All firing must be completed by 9:00 AM to allow matches on adjacent ranges to commence.

Note regarding rifles: All rifles must have a known, good 600 yard zero to facilitate getting on target at 1000 yards. Rear sights or scopes must have the capability to be raised at least an additional 21 minutes to become zeroed at 1000. Mil-dot or BDC reticles are usually not useful for this type of shooting. Service rifles should be match conditioned. Caliber .223 rifles are usually ineffective at this range. 30 caliber, 168 grain bullets are usually ballistically ineffective at this distance.

Ammo: Bring your own, handloads or factory. Match grade ammo only!

Safety: Eye and ear protection is required on the firing line and in the pits. Yellow "empty chamber indicator" devices are required to be in place on all rifles when not engaged in firing.

If you have any questions, please contact Greg Fallon gcfallon@aol.com or stop in at the Sportsman's Warehouse gun counter in the afternoon or evening
